THREE OLD GUYS

WHAT BEGAN AS A REUNION OF OLD MUSICIANS TURNED OUT TO BE A FUN JAM SESSION FOR DENNIS, DUANE AND GARY.  AS DENNIS PUTS IT, “WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER, I BEGAN PLAYING WITH A GROUP LED BY DUANE, AND THE LAST GROUP I PLAYED WITH BEFORE HANGING IT UP FOR A WHILE WAS LED BY GARY. WHEN WE STARTED JAMMING, IT WAS LIKE…..DE JA VOUS….WE HAD NEVER STOPPED MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER…..WOW!”  LAST YEAR, DENNIS DECIDED TO START PLAYING THE KEYBOARD AGAIN BASICALLY FOR HIS OWN ENJOYMENT, AND HE INVITED DUANE TO JOIN HIM IN THE MUSIC ROOM AT HIS HOME.  THE TWO HAD A LOT OF FUN REMINISCING AND PLAYING SONGS THEY HAD PERFORMED IN THE PAST.  SOME TIME LATER, DENNIS INVITED GARY TO JOIN THEM, AND IT WASN’T VERY LONG AFTER THAT EXPERIENCE THAT THE THREE BEGAN SHARING THE LOVE OF THEIR MUSIC WITH OTHERS.  FOR SEVERAL YEARS, THE RICHARD QUIGLEY MEMORIAL JAZZ FESTIVAL HAD FEATURED THE MARVELOUS DAVE LOWE ON COMBO NIGHT.  DAVE THOUGHT WE HAD FEATURED HIM ENOUGH, AND WE NEEDED TO MAKE A CHANGE.  HE ASKED THAT WE FIND A DIFFERENT FEATURE. THE QUIGLEY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, ACTING ON DAVE’S REQUEST, DECIDED THIS YEAR TO MOVE IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT DIRECTION WITH FRIDAY COMBO NIGHT.  IN OUR EFFORTS TO PROVIDE GOOD MUSIC BY LOCAL MUSICIANS, WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO INTRODUCE THIS FINE GROUP TO OUR AUDIENCE.  THEY ARE “LOCAL BOYS” WITH EXCELLENT MUSIC BACKGROUNDS.  DENNIS PLAYS THE KEYBOARDS AND PROVIDES KEYBOARD BASS AND SYNTHESIZER.  DUANE AND GARY BOTH PLAY GUITAR, AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, ALL THREE OF THESE “OLD” GUYS CAN REALLY SING.  IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE WE INTRODUCE FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF OUR AUDIENCE THREE OLD GUYS!

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR LOCAL BEACON CREDIT UNION FOR SPONSORING COMBO NIGHT.
